This is an extremely simple technique for getting that modern rusty face look. It involves using Photoshop's layer blending modes and works best with a black and white portrait. |

Start
with a portrait of someone. |
|
Next, you'll need a rusty texture. I highly recommend rust textures (or wood, or stone) from mayang.com. It's an excellent resource for all kinds of high resolution textures. |

Bring
the rust texture into the portrait document, so that the rust is on
the layer above the portrait. |

Change the rust layer's blending mode to Overlay. |

Tada!
Instant rusty face. |

Technically, that's it! You're done. But just for kicks, let's change the Overlay blending mode on the rust layer to Soft Light instead...

Now try the Darken blending mode... |

And here's
the Multiply blending mode. Note the dramatic difference you get with each blending mode. Since each of our tastes vary, you may like one of the alternate ones better than the Overlay mode. |
